borderland

Gloria Anzaldúa called herself a border woman. Living right at the border between Mexico and the US. She called the border an open wound "where the Third World grates against the first and bleeds". She wrote about Borderlands and border culture. "This is my home this thin edge of barbwire." Sometimes where I live feels like living on the edge of something else. Always meeting security and cops. Seeing their cars drive across the square while buying fruit and vegetables. Seeing them stand in a circle, white men chewing gum as you come up the stairs. They don't know us, we are faceless, only bodies moving through their land. Our home.
